Tammie Fields

You can catch me on air weekday evenings where I work as an Anchor at Spectrum News 13 serving the Central Florida community. I am thrilled to be able to work with such a hard working dedicated team of journalists who live in and work in neighborhoods across our viewing area. Before coming to Orlando I worked as the weekend Anchor at 10 News, WTSP-TV in Tampa for ten years.

I have worked on air in broadcasting in Oklahoma, Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, and now Florida.  While working as a reporter and anchor in Tallahassee, I taught journalism students at Florida A&M University where I worked as an adjunct professor. After covering several big stories in Tallahassee like the Presidential Election Recount, I spent six glorious years in Jacksonville where I co-anchored the 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. segments of The Morning Show. I also anchored the Noon show each day. I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Radio, TV and Film and a minor in South African history. In May of 2017 I completed my master’s degree in Digital Journalism & Design from the University of South Florida St. Petersburg.

I am deeply humbled to have been honored by The Associated Press with an individual achievement award for coverage of the hurricanes in 2004. In 2005 I earned an award from the American Heart Association for “Excellence in Cardiovascular Communications” and two years later received a media ambassador award for my work as a “Power to End Stroke Ambassador.” In 2009 I was recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists for investigative reporting.

I’ve flown with the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels and interviewed famous people like First Lady Laura Bush, R&B singer Brian McKnight, and the late civil rights leader Coretta Scott King and her daughter, the late Yolanda King.

My husband Chris and I love to spend time together with our son going to church, museums, libraries, and eating out while exploring all that Central Florida has to offer.

People who have had the most impact on my life and my career are my mother and the late author and historian John Hope Franklin who attended my high school. In fact Mr. Franklin’s research about a horrible historical event in my hometown is the sole reason I decided to become a journalist.

My all time favorite movies are The Color Purple and the 1959 version of Imitation of Life.
